Elis Badjie, the General Coordinator for the Centre for Emancipating Education (CEE), has said that the school, situated in Manjai Kunda, was founded to serve the nation by providing quality and affordable education to the people.
In an interview yesterday with this reporter, Madam Badjie said the school was founded in 2002 by a local charity organisation.
According to her, there is need for more improvement in educating the young ones at schools not only in The Gambia but also in West Africa.
The CEE coordinator said a lot of changes is needed to improve the quality of education in Africa, adding that her school is geared towards achieving that goal.
Apart from reading and writing, mathematics and other subjects, Madam Badjie explained, the school had also introduced important subjects, such as food security and health education, to inculcate sound knowledge and understanding of pertinent issues in the young ones at early stage.
She added that the school, at the moment, has about 10 staff and over 100 pupils.
Also speaking to The Point at their base at the new five star Jerma Beach Hotel, a group of friends of the school - Greena Lisa, Kris Reptens, Celine Krugs, Dominique Von den Steen, Cindy Baert and Debby Pammels - who are raising funds for the school in Belgium, said their philosophy for sponsoring the school is that every child, including the ones in The Gambia, has the right to quality education.
