Major boost for Foni

Somita Clinic in Foni Brefet District on Saturday received 40,000 Euro worth of medical equipments from Gabrial Van Heusden and Gonnelly Van Erp, a Dutch Couple.

The donated items included different laboratory euipment, refrigerator, beds, and wheel chairs, medicines, chairs, tables, cupboards, bandages, toys and Cloths.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, honorable Bintanding Jarju, National Assembly Member (NAM) for the district, said the gesture of the couple will complement Government’s effort in the Health sector. Healthcare, she said, is high on the government’s development priorities as it is committed to bring health facilities to the door- steps of all Gambians.

She added that the gesture was as a result of the long- standing unity that exists in Somita. She then thanked the donors and described the gesture as laudable and very timely.

Borry Touray, the village Solicitor for his part, expressed delight for the gesture. He assured the donors that the donation will go a long way towards addressing some of the material needs of the village clinic.

Kaddy Jabang, the Community Health Nurse in charge of the clinic said the clinic has been helping a lot in community healthcare delivery system. She outlined some of their constraints, such as the lack of nurses and solar panels, among others.

In handing over the donated items, Gabrial Van Heusden expressed delight, adding that the donated equipment will address some of the health needs of the village and its satellite villages.

Also as a means of showing their appreciation to the gesture, the community also gave a plot of land and other gifts to the donors, and another plot to Borry Touray.
