At least 19 teacher trainees from Immaculate College in Ireland, yesterday visited the Daily Observer Company, in Bakau.

The visit was part of a familiarization tour meant to acquaint the students with the Gambian media, particularly the Daily Observer as the leading and first daily newspaper in the country.

Receiving the guests, Dr Alieu Badara Sarja Taal, Managing Director of the Observer Company, said his company has the capacity of printing more than 2,300 copies daily.
According to Dr Taal, the company is an independent company that brings good and authentic news to the awareness of the general public daily.

He said the paper has international circulation, which was made possible through the internet. He assured the visiting students that they will enjoy Gambian hospitality during the period of their stay.

Speaking earlier, Mrs. Sinead Dinneen, the Coordinator of the group and a Lecturer at the college, said one of their aims for the visit is to expose the students to media work in The Gambia. “They are studying to become trainers at the primary level. So far, we have been to six lower basic schools, including Bakau Lower Basic School, Bakau New Town Lower Basic School and St Theresa’s Lower Basic School,” Mrs. Dinneen added. She further expressed her appreciation to the management of the Observer Company for the warm reception.

Seedy Bojang, a Proof Reader at the Daily Observer newspaper took the group on a tour of the different departments of the company.
