Synergy of Expatriate holds convention

The Synergy of expatriate educators in The Gambia on Saturday, held its first-ever convention at the regional office in Kanifing. At the convention, matters relating to the welfare and well-being of its members were discussed.

Speaking at the event, Israel Oneli, Director-General of the Synergy of expatriate educators in The Gambia said his association aims to promote issues associated with education, with a view to contributing to the eradication of illiteracy, and facilitating access to scientific knowledge and modern teaching method.

According to him, they also aim to assist in the area of eraducation, through enhanced inter-organizational cooperation with a view to advancing the opportunity of profitable employment.

Mr Oneli further stated that his association is here to further complement the efforts of The Gambia Teachers Union in the education sector. “We will work hand in glove with GTU to promote better quality and affordable education for Gambian children”, he said.

Oneli mentioned that they wound make sure that expatriate educators in The Gambia to stay away from anything that may tarnish their image in the country.

At the convention various speakers made commitment to see that their aims and goals are achieved by calling on each other to work as one.

They appealed to government to look into the payment of non-bush allowance to them among other pressing issues. Martin Juana, a member of the association delivered the vote of thanks.
