Four Gambian players, David Sambou, Baboucarr Badjan, Assan Lowe, and Abdou Darboe, with the help of Gambia’s FIFA players agent, Kabba Ceesay, are expected to take part in a youth football tournament scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, from 19 to the 25 November 2007.
The players’ trip to Ghana was made possible by the invitation of FC Mandela/ Top Star Sports Management International, through the intermediary of Kabba Ceesay.
Kabba Ceesay, who revealed this information to Pointsport, said the tournament is staged for children between 16 to 18 years. He said the organizers of the tournament have invited four scouts from European clubs who are seriously looking for young players within this age bracket.
Ceesay explained the format of the tournament: 8 teams will be divided into 2 groups and the winners of each group would play in the final and the runners-up play for the 3rd and 4th places.
“The trophy has to be won three times by the same club to be permanently awarded to the club and each team will play at least 3 matches,” he added.
He said the rules of FC Mandela Sports Management International will not favour the Gambian teams on which the four young players are currently playing. He said,“ in the event of an onward transfer of selected players from one team to the other, the club of the selected player shall received 30% of the agreed percentage between FC Mandela and the professional club of the player.”
