Music lovers in the Gambia are nearing the point of frenzy as the count down to the much - talked about grand folklore fundraising gala night organized by Sound City draws to a close.
The history-making event, which aims to drum up financial support for President Jammeh’s HIV/AIDs Trust Fund will be held on Saturday 24 November at the Senegambia Beach Hotel at 7pm local time According to Mabou Touray, the coordinator of Sound City, the all-night event will be marked by eye-opening cultural manifestations and real gastronomic experiences.
He said that a lineup of topflight artists from Senegal and Gambia including Thione Seck, Baba Maal, Musa Ngum, Kabakel , Saffie Mbenga, Jali Saihou Saho, Medina Sabach and others are billed to perform at the event.
Touray who is a music impresario himself added that, a plethora of high profile personalities will grace the event emphasizing that the dress code on the night will be strictly African style.

Champion Sound and GRTS are planning to organise for the first time an awards night to recognize the achievements of Gambian men and women who have made in-roads in showbiz and other fields of media, The Point can authoritatively reveal.
The night, entitled National Showbiz Musical Entertainment Awards Night will be held on Saturday January 19 2008 at the spacious hall of the Kairaba Beach Hotel.
Speaking to the Point, the initiator of the event, DJ Lamin Cham said that the National Showbiz Musical Entertainment Awards Night will serve as a unique opportunity to recognize Gambians who are outstanding in their fields of endeavour.
“The Night will be graced by international guest artists including Thione Seck, Baba Maal, and some local music maestros including Ousu Njie Senor, Leon Prom and Bai Janha
The President Jammeh’s award winning DJ said: “ I have been in the music scene for 17 years promoting musical events both locally and internationally . I have received awards in the UK and other parts of Europe for organizing mega festivals. Back in 1994 , I presented Gregory Isaac in The Gambia and not that long ago the President of the Republic of The Gambia gave me an award, so I feel it is a challenge to continue to fly the Gambian flag high “We are organizing this programme to give local artists international recognition as well as to highlight Gambian achievers” .
The event, sponsored by Quantum Net, Africell, Gamcel and COMIUM will see awards given in various categories such as the Best Female Artist of the Year, Best Solo Artist, Best Group, Best Video Clip, Best Fashion Designer, Producer of the Year , News Broadcaster of the Year , Entertainment Journalist of the Year, Outstanding Musical Group, and a lifetime achievement award.
