In Alieu Momar Njai’s Trial State Enters Nolle Prosequi

Friday, November 9, 2007

The Attorney General yesterday entered a nolle prosequi in the ongoing criminal case against the erstwhile K.M.C Mayor, Mr. Alieu Momar Njai.

The entry means that the proceedings on the case have been brought to a stop.

This followed the prosecution’s leading of two witnesses to prove the charges against the accused, who has been standing trial on allegations that he had stolen D4m from the Gambia Scout Association between 2004 and 2005. Mr. Njai entered a no-guilty plea to the charge brought against him.

Among the prosecution’s two witnesses was the proprietor of a private auditing firm, Mr. Augustus Prom, who testified among other things that the accused’s tenure was free of discrepancy.

The defense counsel, Badou S.M. Conteh, put up a strong defense for the accused.

Magistrate Moses Richards, who was presiding over the case, has since re-assigned the file to Magistrate Mbackeh as he was set to travel out of the jurisdiction.
