The Alliance Franco-Gambienne (AFG), last Saturday, held its first ever book fair.
The event was an opportunity for the management and staff of AFG to contribute their quota in the promotion of a reading culture in The Gambia. More than 3,569 books were displayed on the stands for sale at affordable prices ranging from 10 to 20 dalasis.
In a chat with the Daily Observer, Pascal Ressouk, the newly appointed director of AFG, expressed delight about the one-day book fair.
‘‘It is really a success. Students and adult-French learners stormed AFG in order to buy books. This is clear testimony that people are getting more and more interested in reading,’’ he noted. He then seized the opportunity to thank all the teachers and volunteers who helped to make the initiative a real success.
“We couldn’t do it without the collaborative efforts of everyone involved, particulary our main sponsor, Total Gambia Ltd,’’ he added.
For his part, Georges Abamgwu, a French teacher at AFG, stated that the initiative was a laudable one, as it provides a wide range of books to people of all ages. According to him, the collection, which is part of their stock, is not only attractive but constitutes an interesting source of knowledge.
