Thursday, December 6, 2007

The GFA FA Cup champions, Gambia Pcoorts Authority FC, have been paired with Entente Bingerville, a First Division club in Cote D’Ivoire, for the preliminary fixtures of the 2008 Confederation championships.

Gambia’s dethroned league champions will be the first to host their West African counterparts in the first-leg cracker, scheduled between the weekend of February 15 to February 17, 2008. The return leg will see Ports Authority travel to Abidjan between February 29 to March  2.

Should Ports Authority outclass their Ivorian opponents, they will be billed to face, in the second round competition, the Senegalese giants, Linguere FC, who had a bye to the second round stages. The prospective winners in the second round crackers will proceed to the third round,

where the last eight winners will progress to the group stage of Africa's second-tier club competition.

Gambia Ports Authority participated in last year’s CAF Club Champions' League competition, but they dropped out at the preliminary stages after losing out to the Nigerian giants, Nasarawa United, on an away goal rule.

The Ferry Boys have just named Ebrima Cham, commonly known as Lukeh, as the new head coach replacing coach Alagie Sarr whose two-year deal with the club expired recently.

Coach Ebrima Cham, who was last season sacked as Ham Ham FC head coach after a poor run of form, is reported to have bagged a 2-year deal with the Banjul-based club who finished at fourth position in last year’s First Division league table.
