Kunkung Jobateh, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Department of State for Education has called on the parents to allow their girl child to be enrolled in schools.
He made this remark at the inaugural ceremony of a Science Block at SCANAID Senior Secondary School in Brufut, Kombo North District.
DPS Jobateh further added that the education of girl child is of paramount importance, and then noted that the Government of The Gambia is doing everything possible to provide assistance to girls in schools.
He implored the parents to encourage their children to work hard for a better future, and then urged the staff to work hard to make the school second to none.
DPS also highlighted the significant role SCANAID is doing in the development of education, noting that SCANAID is DOSE’s genuine partner in the area of education.
For her part, Mariama Baldeh, Head Mistress of SCANAID Senior Secondary School commended the donors, Erna and Knut Erng, for the esteem support, which she added immensely contributed to the welfare and well-being of SCANAID children.
According to her, SCANAID means Scandinavian aid, adding that this group of donors decided to form a charitable organisation to help alleviate the suffering of people, through education and feeding programmes. She also delved into the history of SCANAID, adding that by 2004, the donorshave expanded their projects so as to make provision for their products.
Mrs Baldeh further thanked Erra and Knut Erng, who singlehandedly financed the newly constructed Science Block.
Amongst the speakers were Bredesen, International Chairman and Victoria Andrews.
Present at the occasion were Amie Bensouda, chairperson of the school, Yunus Sanno, Alkalo of Burufut, and Director of Region Two who presented a gift of appreciation to the donors.
