The Department of State for Education, in collaboration with Sight Savers, recently organized a one-day sensitization workshop on Integrated Education Programme (IEP) at the GOVI Resource Centre in Kanifing.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Amie Riley, the coordinator of IEP, said the main objective of the workshop was to create awareness and enhance the capacity of policymakers through comprehensive ideas to support blind and low vision children.
In his remarks, Mr Mamadou Sanneh, the Director of Basic Education, said discrimination and harassment of blind and low vision children would be given serious consideration.
Such handicapped children have been facing many problems in terms of education, Mrs Hadiza of Sight Savers noted.
Other speakers on the occasion, who expressed similar sentiments, included Mr Muhammed Kora of Gambia Organization for the Visual Impaired.
