Mr John Tasello, a USA based philanthropist in California on 1 February 2007 donated learning materials to Tanji Lower Basic School.

The donation delivered through the deputy Managing Director of Gamcel, Mr Pierre Walter Cherry, comprised pens, pencils, exercise books, dictionaries, cutters and first-aid materials.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the school, Mr Cherry, who presented the materials on behalf of Mr Tasselo, said the donation was made possible through the help of Mr Essa Sarr, a former student of the school and native of the village.

Mr Cherry added that John Tasello had made such donations several times before and had promised to continue giving such support.

He noted that this type of donations complement government’s effort in providing quality and affordable education to all.

Receiving the items, Mr Momodou G. Gibba, Deputy Headmaster of the school, thanked Mr John Tasello and Essa Sarr for the “noble” gesture.

“This is not new to us as we have been receiving such donations from him,” he added. Mr Gibba said the materials would be put into good use, whilst thanking Mr Cherry for the support and usual cooperation.

Kaddy Joof, a student of the school, gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the students.
