Lisa Kent Memorial Nursery School in Sanchaba Sulay Jobe was inaugurated on 23 January 2007 to provide five-year quality pr-education and early child development to children less than 9 years of age.

The establishment of the school was greatly enhanced through sponsorship from the UK Charity Fund via Mrs Liza and Gilles.

Deputizing for the Director of Education in Region Two, Aji Mariama Jallow expressed appreciation with the proprietor and the staff of Lisa Kent Nursery School.

She dilated on key issues highlighted in the Education Policy 2004-2015 which is premised both on the Gambia’s Vision 2020 and the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper - both of which seek to improve the human capital of the country by reducing the number of people living below the poverty line.

Mrs Jallow said the key priorities in the Education Policy are captured within five components aimed at providing to all Gambians equitable access to high quality education.

These, she outlined, include access to education, quality education, instructional materials, and early childhood development.

“Other priority areas are vocational and technical education, tertiary and higher education, and capacity building,” she noted.

In his remarks, the Headmaster of the school, Aljuma Camara, thanked the Kent family for their invaluable support to the school and the students.

He also thanked Lisa and Gilles for the laudable gesture.

The sponsors, on their part, said the charity has been set up to basically support the education of needy children, adding that it aims to contribute in developing education in The Gambia.

They called on parents to make good use of the opportunity by sending their children to school.
