The Kanifing Municipal Council’s efforts in providing some parts of the municipality with streetlights was recently dealt a slight blow as one of the street-lights poles was lately damaged when it was hit by a bus.
In a road accident on 29 December of last year, an unlicensed mini-bus, driven by one Mamadi Jabbie, ran into a CSE-installed street-lights pole in Tallinding, damaging it on impact.
The pole was valued at D50, 000 and the contractors, CSE, earlier on insisted that Jabbie pay D50, 000 for the restoration of the pole. But in his judgement, Magistrate Richards instead imposed a D25,000 fine on Jabbie and any default on fine payment may mean he will go to jail for six months.
1042 Kujabi was the prosecutor.
