DAC urged farmers to prepare for the dry season cultivation

Alhagie Banty Jaiteh, Divisional Agricultural Coordinator in Central River Region (CRR) has warned rice growers in Niani district in CRR north, to prepare for the dry season cultivation.

In a recent interview with the Daily Observer, Mr. Jaiteh said CRR north is a tidal irrigation intervention area, thus the need for double seasons.

Mr Jaiteh added that irrigation area comprises six villages (Sukuta, Jakaba, Fulla Kunda,kayai Touba Kuta and Koto), covering a land area of about 355 hectres.

He further urged farmers to prepare their farms on time, saying if cultivation is done on time each hectare can produce 3 tones of rice.

Mrs. Kumba Sowe, women rice growers in the area implored for the provision of tractors. “If we are equipped with farming materials, the problem of food security will be solved”, she added.

She finally recommended five (5) threshing machines for Fulla Kunda Jakaba tidal irrigation area.
