Jammeh receives award in Canada

President Yahya Jammeh, was among three African Heads of State honoured by the West Africa Mining Awards in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The other two African leaders were President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria and John Kuofor of Ghana.

President Jammeh was honoured for creating a socio-political atmosphere for resources development in West Africa.

Presenting the Award, on behalf of the Mayor of Toronto, Albin Corning, former Speaker of the Ontario legislature, praised the Gambian Head of State for his vision.

Dr Isatou Njie- Saidy, Vice President , who received the award on behalf of the Gambian leader said, the Government of The Gambia under the leadership of President Jammeh has worked very hard and continues to do so by creating the conducive and enabling policy environment for both local and foreign private capital investment in The Gambia. She went on to invite investors to take advantage of the profitable opportunities existing in The Gambia.

Speaking at the event, the President and Chief Executive Officer of North Atlantic Resources Ltd, Dr John North, spoke of his company’s experiences in Africa, as a mining entity.

Part of the programme included a country presentation by the Director of Geology, Abdoulie Cham.

The Vice President and delegation before leaving Toronto visited an exhibition organised by the Prospectus and Developers Association of Canada.

Dr Njie-Saidy was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Communications and Information Technology, Neneh Macdouall -Gaye, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the President, Ousman Jammeh, The Gambia’s Ambassador to the United States, who is also accredited to Canada, Dodou Bammy Jagne and the Director of Geology, Abdoulie Cham.
