Dr Patrick Chang, Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia on Wednesday gave a donation of 100 bags of rice, vegetables and bananas to the Cassamance refugees in The Gambia through the Jammeh Foundation for Peace at a ceremony held in Ndeman in Foni.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Chang disclosed that the donation is the 8th to the Cassamance refugees by his Embassy. The refugees, according to Ambassador Chang in total are seven thousand five hundred. “These are people
who fled from Cassamance to The Gambia and we want them to enjoy heir stay in The Gambia”.
In receiving the donated items, Omar Gibba, Deputy Chief of Protocol and Board Member of Jammeh Foundation for Peace, described the gesture as timely, noting that the refugees needs support.
He commended the Taiwanese government for supporting The Gambia at all times.
Seargent Karamo Marenah, an Immigration Officer who also spoke at the presentation ceremony corroborated the sentiments of Mr Gibba.
