VP opens Omakan Hotel

As part of the activities marking the nation’s 42nd independence celebration, Dr Ajaratou Isatou Njie-Saidy, Vice President and Secretary of State for Women’s Affairs, recently opened the Omakan Hotel valued at D30 million, on behalf of President Yahya Jammeh.

Delivering her statement at a ceremony held at the hotel’s complex at Sukuta Village in Kombo North District, Vice President Njie-Saidy said the building of the hotel was in line with the objectives of the Tourism Policy, to generate employment for Gambians, and encourage The Gambia’s private sector participation and ownership of such ventures.

VP Njie-Saidy confirmed that the investment by Bai Matarr Drammeh, the Managing Director of Omakan Hotel, was well recognised by the government, as a responsive to the clarion call for Gambians to effectively participate in national development.

She finally commend Mr Drammeh, for the landmark achievement, saying the completion of the hotel was not a surprise to associated with him.

In her statement, Olyn Mcmahon, General Manager of Omakan Hotel, said the name “Omakan” is a tribute to Mr Drammeh’s parents: His father, Omar and his mother, Kannie.

Ms Mcmahon, said the hotel offers a luxurious, uncluttered and peaceful environment for diplomats, business executives or travellers seeking privacy and calm.

At the ceremony, Mr Drammeh presented certificate of appreciation to the individuals who worked relentlessly towards the success of the hotel.

Other speakers at the ceremony included Angela Kolley, Secretary of State for Tourism and Culture, Fatou Njie, a student from the University of The Gambia, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Andy Sarge. The ceremony was also attended by members of the National Assembly, the judiciary, international representatives, service chiefs and other dignitaries.
