Sege and Natasa Foundation (SENA), an international charity organisation in Germany, on Friday, donated a fire-fighting ambulance, valuing D500, 000, to the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC).
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the KMC, Francis Gomez, acting Mayor KMC, lauded the gesture and the partnership between SENA Foundation and his council, which dated back to 2002.
Mayor Gomez said the donated ambulance will upgrade the capacity of fire-fighting services in the country. He commended the donors for the gesture, and assured them that the ambulance will be fully utilised.
Mayor Gomez used the opportunity to inform the gathering that the drugs and medical items donated by the charity previously, had helped in saving countless lives in the community.
Dr Bernad Janssen, founder of SENA, said the Foundation was established in 2001 and has rendered much humanitarian assistance to the needy, including Lamin Village in Niumi, where the Foundation provided a milling machine and constructed a nursery school.
Dr Janssen said the donation of the ambulance was necessitated by numerous fire incidents in the municipality. He then urged the municipal authorities to put the ambulance into good use. He also pledged to give more assistance to the KMC in the near future.
Ansumana Saho, President of SENA Gambia branch, said the Foundation has proven to be true friends of The Gambia. Councillor Musa Mendy delivered the vote of thanks.
