Caretaker coach Alhagi Sarr said the Gambia Football Association should find out first whether Gambian foreign players are playing active football or not before inviting them for an international competition.
Speaking to journalists shortly after Gambia’s 2-0 defeat to Guinea on Saturday, Coach Sarr said he was very disappointed with the performance of some of his players, particularly in the second half. Sarr who seemed disappointed than angry said: “We will call a press conference so that we will tell the GFA what to do before inviting players. There are lot of problems that need to be addressed. Some of the players arrived just few days before the game which is not a good sign.”
He said the football association should monitor foreign players to know whether they are playing active football and also their positions in their respective leagues.
Sarr will not talk down the Scorpions in the face of Guinea, saying the visiting team is a good side. “Guinea have a good side. Most of their players are first-choice in their respective clubs in Europe,” he said.
Despite the setback, coach Sarr believes Gambia still stand a bright chance of qualifying to Ghana 2008 finals.
