Omar Drammeh Memorial Skills Training Centre, in Ebo Town Sanchaba, benefited from a newly built technical training block valued at D38, 900 from Susanne Peterson, a Danish national.
The inauguration ceremony took place last Friday at a ceremony held at the school ground.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony Mr. Momodou Lamin Jagne, Programme Director, said the skills centre is a community based initiative and it targets young school drop-outs, particularly young girls and women. This, he said is a young institution in relative terms, and it is a product of the women and youth empowerment program of a community based organisation called ‘Jagal Elaeg Organisation’ which is registered organisation at the Department of State for Justice.
He added that the school started with only four students, two computers, few chairs and benches, and four volunteer teachers and himself, but thank to these unrelenting and courageous volunteers the dream of instituting a centre that would empower women particularly young girls and also compliment government’s efforts in youth development and at the same time support community initiative is almost a reality.
According to him, this project they are celebrating is wholly and exclusively financed by Sussane Skove Peterson, who is from Denmark at a cost of D38, 900 for the purchase of all the materials and has also sponsored thirteen students in the school. “For this reason we want to honor her with the title of ‘mother of Omar Drammeh Memorial Skills Training Centre’. Of course, we have had support from sympathetic individuals and organisations and we are very much appreciative of every good contribution from individuals and institutions in the recent past”, he said.
For her part Sussanne Peterson, advised them to continue their hardworking and assured them that more gift is on the way coming for the school.
Mr. Omar Ndow, the school principal chaired the occasion.
