Rotary Club embarks on sponsor walk

Members of the Rotary Club of Banjul and the co-ordinator of the Interact Club of Marina International school, on Saturday staged a ‘walk to raise funds for education programme’ from Castle Petrol Station on Kairaba Avenue to Palm Beach Hotel in Kotu.

It was aimed at raising funds for its education programme which annually awards scholarships to needy and deserving Gambian children at various levels of the education system.

The goal of this year’s walk was to raise D100, 000 to award 50 scholarships to Gambian students in the 2006-2007 academic years beginning in September. The major sponsors of the walk were Seaview Garden Hotel, J-Fin Money Transfer, Gambega and Ultra-Soft Printing and Computing.

According to Dr Burang Goree Njie, Director of the Rotary Club, the club is a service oriented club that supports community initiatives and provides assistances to the less fortunate and needy in society. He added that it also encourages and fosters the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprises and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace.
