Trust Bank Gambia Ltd yesterday presented D50,000 to Gambia’s most outstanding Grade 9 students in the 2006 Exams, as part of Trust Bank Excellence in the Millennium Awards.
The best ten students in the May 2006 GABECE (Grade 9 Examination) who received the cash awards include Sainabou A. Bojang of Gambia Methodist Academy (Aggregate 6), Fatou A. Dibba of Ndow’s Comprehensive UBS (6), Aisha Saho of Gambia Methodist Academy (6), Muhammed M. Ceesay of Gambia Methodist Academy (7), Anna Finda Gborie of Gambia Methodist Academy (7), Sulayman Jobe of Charles Jow Mem. Academy (7), Mariatou Sisay of Gambia Methodist Academy (7), Sheikh Tijan Cham of Gambia Methodist Academy ((8), Alimamy Kanu of Charles Jow Mem. Academy (8), and Momodou Lamin Sambou of SOS Hermann Gmeiner UBS (8).
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, held at the Corinthia Atlantic Hotel, the General Manager of Trust Bank, Mr. Oreme Joiner, said Trust Bank’s vision and mission for excellence in education is clear to all.
“We at Trust Bank Ltd are proud to give the sum of D50, 000 in cash prizes to ten outstanding students of the Grade 9 Exams of May 2006,” he said.
Each student, he explained, would receive an award of D5, 000 in the form of a Trust Bank Student Account and a Certificate of Merit.
“The Trust Bank student Account is ideal for the child’s development; it is meant to build your children’s future. The Trust Bank Student Account is flexible, affordable and bears competitive rates of interest.
He added that parents and students could contribute to the account by making deposits even as low as D100, expressing hope that the cash donation would help parents and guardians in meeting the educational expenses of students.
For his part, the PS for Education, Mr Baboucarr Boye, thanked Trust Bank Ltd for the good gesture. “Supporting means a big contribution to the socio-economic development of The Gambia,” he added.
