SDA ends women’s congress

10 days Women’s Ministries Biennial Congress (WMBC), at the Seven Day Adventist (SDA) Mission School hall in Jeshwang, was on April 10 concluded.

The congress brought together women from Adventist Mission Stations in The Gambia, Senegal, Guinea, Mali and other sub-regional countries of West Africa. It is a biennial event, which is geared towards bringing women of member countries of Adventist Mission Stations in Africa, especially within the sub-region of West Africa under one roof to discuss burning issues regards to women affairs in Africa and the world at large.

Other issues extensively covered during the ten days congress centered on the role of women in peace building within the family and society at large; women as agents of peace and development; parental role of women at family and societal level amongst other important roles play by women towards achieving world peace and development.

Speaking at the occasion, Haddy Nyang Jagne, National Assembly Member (NAM) for Jeshwang who duptised for the Hon Speaker of the National Assembly, Mrs. Fatoumata Jahumpa-Ceesay, expressed profound gratitude for the congress describing it as historical event and a step in the right direction towards the advancement of women in Africa and the world at large. “A woman is created with peculiar qualities and as a woman of God, one has to exhibit these qualities,” she said.

Hon Nyan Jagne commended the women for choosing the Gambia as the venue for the congress, and urged them to keep up the momentum in the interest of world peace and development.

Pastor Emmanuel P. Smith, Director-General of the Adventist Mission in The Gambia, stated that women constituted large number of membership of the Seven Day Adventist Church World wide.

Mrs. Loum, Women’s Ministries Director for the Gambia, Mrs. Leanie Saclio, Director Adventist Women’s Ministries in Senegal and Mrs. Rosa Johnson former Principal of Seven Day Adventist (SDA) School in Jeshwang gave brief historical background of the women biennial congress.
