At least 50 women in Saruja Village in Central River Region, on Friday, concluded a five-day training on pottery production.
The training workshop - funded by the African Development Bank - was organised by the Community Skills Improvement Project (CSIP).
Commenting about the training, Lamin Badjie, Community Development Officer for CRR South, said CSIP is sub-divided into adult literacy, skills training and micro-finance. Mr Badjie said there are people gifted with the knowledge of traditional pottery. He implored on the women to harness their potentials, urging them to learn more sustainable and marketable skills to meet the demand of the population.
For his part, Alagie Gai, the Head trainer, stressed that the acquisition of skills is a necessity to reducing poverty.
Ma Kani Janko, another prominent personel in the training, described pottery as a cost-effective skills compared to other skills. According to her, the widely used materials in pottery production are wood or plastic.
She revealed that the training enabled the women to be able to produce quality steamers, coal pots, stores, tap, jars, bowls, cooler, pots, among others.
