The Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology in The Gambia (AASAT), which was formed in 1993, revised its constitution and operations in 2006, for effective contribution to national development.
In an interview with the Daily Observer, Ms Njareh Jobe, acting Finance Director and Co-Administrator, said the associations’ aims and objectives are; to promote the effectiveness of science and technology in the promotion of human welfare; to advance and promote education and research in science and technology; foster science and technology innovation, among others.
According to her, the nation’s ability to initiate socio-economic skills depends on its capacity in science technology and innovation, noting that they require rapid adoption and changed economic circumstances especially by developing countries.
She explained that the association is a non-political and non-profit making organisation, adding that it is an independent organisation, which is yet to receive funds from people or organisations.
She, therefore, called on interested individuals who are scientifically minded ranging from doctors of science, students at the university, high school levels to join the association and help to promote science and technology.
