Road trips invite a sense of discovery and wonder about the things you may encounter along the way to your destination. However, the last thing you want is to ruin your great romantic adventure (even if your destination is only a few hours away) with road trip boredom! Planning for the time spent in the car together is just as important as packing your essentials. You can use this time as a way to really get connected, especially if this vacation is for some much need isolation time. Let's face it, your send off sets the stage for your whole trip. Why not put at least half the effort for this time as you do planning the rest of your excursion?
For a few ideas to keep road trip boredom at bay, see below!
1. Bestselling Books - Instead of spending the time curled up in the corner reading to yourself, take the time to read to your partner. Or, get your favorite books on Audio instead!
2. Question & Answer - There are many "Story of Us" books available now. Get one of those, or even our own Couples Questions eBook, and take the time to get each other's viewpoints on meaningful and intimate topics.
3. Car Games - Games aren't just for kids! Grab a few kid's summer travel books and get some fresh ideas such as License Plate Bingo, Car Bingo, ABC Signs, etc.
4. Car Karaoke - Okay, maybe not karaoke, but put together a CD of your greatest hit favorites and have a private sing fest! You'll be amazed at how quickly the time flies.

6. Storytelling - Start a story line that involves something you can see from your car at that moment. After a few sentences, it would be your partner's turn to continue the story using something else they can see from the car at that moment.
7. Learn A New Language - Buy, or rent from your library, a foreign language learning CD/tape. Try to translate signs or landmarks you see into the foreign language as you go.
8. 20 Questions - Think of an object or thing. Tell your partner which category it would belong to such as an animal, movie, place, etc. Then your partner can ask up to 20 yes or no questions to figure out what it is. Take turns playing when your partner guesses correctly.
9. Travel Scavenger Hunt - Create a list of things you may expect to see on the road such as a call box, a sign in a foreign language, dog in a car, a dirt road, a lake or a pond, someone wearing a hat, a tall building, etc. Whoever finds all the items first gets a free wish fulfilled by the other person.
10. Magnetic Board Games - If neither of you are the ones driving, engage in a little game play with the many different types of magnetic travel versions of your favorite games.
