The Solicitor-General and Legal Secretary at the Attorney General Chambers, Dr. Henry Carrol, has asserted that the enhancement of the quality of the Gambia’s Criminal Justice Delivery System, which is multi-sectoral and multi-facetted, is indeed the business of every Gambian and every friend of The Gambia.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of a three-day workshop on Criminal Justice Delivery System on Wednesday at the Paradise Suites Hotel, the Legal luminary argued that friends of The Gambia also have a pivotal role to play, as far as the enhancement of the Gambia’s Criminal Justice Delivery System is concerned .

“Within the context of globalization and the global village concept, friends of The Gambia would indeed have enough room, to render positive technical assistance for the enhancement of The Gambia’s Criminal Justice Delivery System.”

According to Dr Carrol, another dimension, which is of paramount importance , as far as the enhancement of The Gambia Criminal Justice Delivery System is concerned , is international cooperation “First and foremost , The Gambia is a bona fide signatory to the Rome Statute, which recently established the Permanent International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands. If The Gambia meets its international obligations, under the Rome Statue, by paying its yearly subscription, The Gambia would stand to gain from a plethora of benefits from the secretariat of the aforesaid statute which will go a long way in enhancing the quality of the Gambia’s Criminal Justice Delivery System,” stated Dr Henry Carrol.

He added: “ Another important dimension of international cooperation which will go a long way in enhancing the quality of The Gambia’s Criminal Justice Delivery System, is the Gambia’s link with the International Police, laconically called INTERPOL . The Gambia’s fruitful cooperation with INTERPOL has indeed enhanced the quality of the Gambia’s Criminal Justice System because of the aforesaid link has drastically reduced the presence of international criminal suspects in The Gambia because INTERPOL indeed has the time , money , resources and highly trained personnel or experts to chase and possibly apprehend international criminal suspects right round our global village. Indeed the arms of the law are long , as aged-old and time-honoured maxim in jurisprudence goes.
