The executivs members of the National Inter-departmental Sport Association,(NISA), on Tuesday met the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, (GCCI), at their offices on Kairaba Avenue.
The aim of the meeting was to inform GCCI about the association’s aim of organising a football match between the politicians and the private sector.
Speaking at the meeting, Saikou B Jarku, NISA’s Secretary-General said the association earlier met to find a possible solution on how they can contribute their quota to the President HIV/Aids treatment.
“ That is why we decided to organise fund-raising programme, through sport since the association is engaged in sports. We also decided to organise football match between the private sector and the government. This could only be done with the help of the Chamber of Commerce in mobilising their institutions since they are the umbrella body of all business industries in the country,” he outlined.
According to him, government has also shown their interest in organising the football match.
Reacting to the comments, Bai Matarr Drammeh, President of Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, commended NISA for such a laudable initiative, adding that ‘fostering mutual relationship among Gambians is indeed a giant stride’.
Mr Drammeh added that his Chamber of Commerce has registered 700 members, and will do everything possible to contribute to the initiative for the benefit of the nation. “President Jammeh’s breakthrough is for the benefit of all Gambians and the entire human race and any meaningful donation made to that effect is genuine and timely,” he said.
For her part, Beatrice Prom, HIV/Aids Coordinator, at the Gambia Chamber of Commerce said the Chamber is currently setting a business coalition, meant to enable the private sector to venture into such initiative.
Mam Cherno, Chief Executive Officer, GCCI also expressed similar sentiments. Bunja Kebbeh, PRO NISA chaired the meeting.
