Gambia to Attend World Sports Press Congress

Seeks for Financial Assistance

The Gambia Sports Journalists Association (GSJA), the umbrella body of sports writers and presenters in the country, is expected to join others 112 sister Associations in the World for the 70th Congress of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS).

A record of 113 member nations has sought accreditation for the 70th AIPS anniversary congress to be held in Bregenz, Austria from May 14th -20th 2007.

The Gambia’s delegation to the World biggest Sport Press gathering will comprise of Namory Trawally and Amadou Korka Jallow, president and Secretary General of the Gambia Sports Journalists Association respectively.

The congress, which would be held at Bregenz’ World renown Festival House, will host a number of important and influential guests including Austria’s Federal Chancellor Dr. Alfred Gusenbauer, President of the Austrian Football Association, Friedrich Stickler, Mr. Gian Franco Kasper, President of FIS, Mr. Ottavio Cinquanta, President of ISU, Mr. Martin Kallen, Chief Operating Officer of EURO 2008, and a number of delegates from the IOC, the Beijing Olympics Games Organizing Committee (BOCOG), Macau 2nd Asian Indoor Games, and Olympic 2014 candidate cities Pyeong Chang, Salzburg and Sochi.

The County of Vorarlberg and the City of Bregenz will jointly host the opening ceremony’s Gala Dinner at the Festival House on Wednesday, May 16.
