Mayor Njai Meets Politicians

The Acting Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council, Alieu Mommar Njai, on Thursday held a famillarisation meeting with APRC structural representatives within the Kanifing Municipality at the KMC head office in Kanifing.

Addressing the meeting, Mayor Njai expressed his intent and will to steer the affairs of the Municipality according to the common aspiration of the people and in consolidation with the development agenda of the Government of The Gambia under the efficient leadership of His Excellency the President Dr Alhaji Yahya AJJ Jammeh.

He said the KMC would strive to return tax to the people in the form of capital projects and essential community services. Mayor Njai encouraged sub ward and ward development communities to priorities their development needs at community level and make it available to the council through their respective ward councillors in order that the council may also plan its development activities according to communal needs.

He said the KMC under his leadership would continue to liaise with relevant stakeholders through existing structures and that there shall be adequate flow of information and consultation between the council and all municipal stakeholders.

The APRC desk officer for Kanifing Municipality Honourable Sulayman Joof, National Assembly Member for Serrekunda West, said Mayor Njai has the capacity and social pedigree to lead the affairs of the Kanifing Municipality and urged the people to offer him support to make his work easier for the common good of the people of the Municipality.

He urged political activists within the Municipality to work in close collaboration with the Mayor for the functional wellbeing of the APRC in the Kanifing Municipality.

The National Assembly Member for Jeshwang Constituency, Honorable Haddy Njang Jagne, commended Mayor Njai’s strive to familiarise himself with the political folk of the Municipality.

The APRC Divisional Chairman for the Municipality, Alhaji Sosseh Colley, called for political cohesion among the people of the Municipality as well as recognition for the structural organs of the party at all levels.

Several other speakers expressed appreciation at Mayor Njai’s general outreach approach to the public and thanked him for giving them the opportunity to share their views and opinions on the political situation of the Municipality.

Present at the meeting were other APRC structural representatives and senior officials of the Kanifing Municipal Council.

The Mayoral meeting with political stakeholders was preceded by one with imams from across the municipality on 9 May 2007.
