Sankung Sillah & Sons to Celebrate Silver Jubilee in Grand Style

Sunday, May 20, 2007

Sankung Sillah and Sons Ltd, one of the leading industrial and manufacturing companies in The Gambia, will celebrate its 25 years of existence tomorrow, Saturday, May 19.

Sankung Sillah & Sons Ltd (SSS factory), was founded in May 1982 by the late Alhaji Sankung Sillah, a renowned Gambian businessman of international standard.
The company manufactures soap, PVC pipes, polythene tubes, fittings, and plastic products that are of first-class standard.

Speaking to The Point yesterday, Mohammed Sillah, the Managing Director of the company, said the factory is the only Gambian owned manufacturing company which is specialised in the production of soap, pipes, plastic bowls and detergent powder in the country for the last 25 years.

“This factory was established by the late Alh. Sankung Sillah from a little amount of resources, but as we celebrate 25 years of existence we now import 200 to 300 metric tones of raw materials for soap production,” he said, adding that the late founder of the factory had already achieved his dream and it was now left for Gambians to contribute their quota in the growth of the industry.

He said the main aim for the establishing the factory was to create job opportunities for young Gambians and to write the Gambian name in “the Guinness book of manufacturing industry, which has already been achieved”.

“We are moving bit by bit as we have already obtained the ECOWAS Trade Regulation Certificate, which will enable us to export our products to ECOWAS member states without paying heavy taxes. And I think this is a great achievement as far as manufacturing is concerned,” Mr. Sillah said.

MD Sillah seized the opportunity to thank the President of The Gambia, H.E. Dr Yahya Jammeh, for his patriotism and vision for The Gambia. “President Jammeh will also grace the occasion,” he added.
He also thanked all the staff of SSS factory for their hard work and dedication to service.

“I must thank our staff from the top management down to the cleaners; I will also thank our customers who over the rough years have been with us. I want to say a big thank you for their cooperation,” MD Sillah expressed appreciation.
