Tuesday, May 22, 2007

Janjanbureh Area Council recently disbursed over forty thousand dalasis to seven schools in the Central River Region as scholarship to needy students.

In his handing-over speech, the Chairman of Janjanbureh Area Council (JAC), Alh Malang Saibou Camara, said the role of the council is to mobilse and utilize resources.

He added that they were able to make the donation for the scholarship out of what they realised from rates.

He therefore urged the community, especially traders at the market, to always pay rates, adding that payment of rates contributes to national development and enables the JAC to assist the needy and other community projects.

He also appealed to the principals of the schools to send them reports on the performance of the sponsored students.

“The council is paying over eighty-five thousand dalasis on scholarship for seventy-one students in sixteen different schools,” the Chief Executive Officer of JAC, Momodou Gida Jallow, said

The Deputy Governor of the region, Momodou Katim Touray, thanked the area council for their laudable gesture. He said helping needy students would contribute invaluably in improving performance, quality and retention of students in schools.

He added that the council’s contributions in the development of education would complement the education policy 2006-2015 which include the provision of relevant and quality education.

Receiving the cheques on behalf of the schools, the Regional Director of schools, Baboucarr Suwareh, thanked the council for their generosity.

He said the schools have been receiving series of assistance from the council including scholarships.
