Dr Patrick Chang, Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia, and Humphrey Mukwereza, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), on Thursday presented cheques in the sum of D640, 000 and D645,950 respectively, to Dr Tamsir Mbowe Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare.
The ceremony was held at the Department of State for Health and Social Welfare in Banjul. The cheques are meant for the construction of a waiting shed, washing base, a kitchen and toilet facilities for the Pediatric Hospital in Kanilai.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Chang said the presentation is part of efforts geared towards working on the Pediatric Hospital in Kanilai. He revealed that his embassy and SCB have a joint venture between them and have spent US$ 250,000, of which US$ 100,000  was for the construction and the remaining US$ 150,000 was for the provision of equipment and furniture of the hospital. According to him, they found some vital facilities missing at the hospital during their earlier visit which will hamper the smooth running of the facility.

For his part, Humphrey Mukwereza, CEO of the Standard Chartered Bank, said he is delighted of the partnership, assured that the hospital will be completed soonest.
In receiving the cheque, Dr Tamsir Mbowe, Secretary of State for Health, expressed gratitude to the Taiwanese Ambassador and the management of SCB for sponsoring the new hospital. According to him, the hospital will be a model in the sub-region not only in the provision of quality medical care for children but also in the training of Gambian medical doctors and nurses.
