YCW wins international programme award

The Youth Crime Watch (YCW) of The Gambia has been awarded the International Programme of the year 2006 award at the Mark Adams Hotel in Denver Colorado, USA.
The Gambia has been represented at the conference by Abdul Jobe, President of the anti-crime organistion in the country.

Reading the citation of the award during YCW’s international youth forum, Terry Modglin, Executive Director of Youth Crime Watch of America, highlighted the past activities of YCW The Gambia, saying "no other country deserves the award more than The Gambia."
He informed the gathering that the Youth Crime Watch of The Gambia’s accomplishment in 2006 under the leadership of Abdul Jobe was overwhelming.

He said the organisation has embarked on a string of activities with little funding, He cited the ‘police-student’ forum and outreach to the schools (involving Youth Crime Watch The Gambia and The Gambia Police Force); an anti-school violence campaign; ensuring violence-free the inter-schools’ athletic competition; participation in the Control Arms campaign, led by WANEP-The Gambia; an anti-violence campaign during the elections; and the holding of a forum on illegal migration.

Receiving the award on behalf of YCW The Gambia, Mr. Jobe assured the delegates and participants of YCW The Gambia’s commitment to continuing in its efforts in the fight against crime, drugs and violence among youngsters.
He thanked the YCW America for the award, adding that it will go a long way towards ensuring the realisation of the objectives of the body.
During the forum, Mr. Jobe had the opportunity to deliver a presentation on his organization’s programmes and activities in The Gambia which earned him spontaneous applause as he departed the podium.
Mr. Jobe was also honoured with the award of the 2005 International Extra Mile Award of Youth Crime.
