On World Press Freedom Day
The Gambia has been listed among 10 countries that are considered by an international media watchdog as enemies of the press and freedom of expression.
According to the statement released by Reporters Without Boarders, The Gambia, Ethopia, Morroco and Egypt top the list which was released in commemoration of May 3rd as the day for Freedom of Expression.
The report stated that these countries have the worst environments for journalist to operate freely and their governments are never willing to dialogue with journalists for better understanding.
Meanwhile the president of Gambia Press Union has told the BBC Network Africa programme that the present government of The Gambia is not willing to engage the press in dialogue, citing as an example the exorbitant increase in the cost of registering a media house from D100, 000 to D500,000.
