Wallidan and Gambian U-20 goalkeeper, Joseph Gomez, started collective training with French giants, Paris Saint German (PSG) after his safe arrival on Sunday.
Kabba Ceesay, FIFA Licensed Players Agent and First Vice President of Gambia Ports Authority confirmed this in an interview with Benjamin Wally Joof of West Coast Radio on Monday. “Joe has started training with the team on Monday and he had successful training,” Mr. Ceesay revealed.
Keeper Gomez arrived at PSG for a two-week long trial. The prolific keeper was spotted by Joel Bats, a former France goalkeeper, alongside one agent Baboucarr Sarr during the African Youth Championships finals held in Congo where he was also voted the most outstanding goalkeeper of the tournament having conceded only one goal in four games.
This new development in keeper Gomez’s career came barely a few months after his purported trip to the Italian giants, AS Roma and Bologna got aborted owing to his commitment to a Norwegian side. If successful, Gomez will be the first-ever Gambian player to play his trade in the French League season.
Agent Kabba Ceesay commended Wallidan Football Club, more specially their founding father, Alhagi OB Conateh, for their professionalism in handling issues surrounding the player’s trial.
Paris Saint German, who has two French league titles under their belt, has also won the French Cup title seven times, the latest being in the 2006 season. Numerous world class players have also passed through the renowned club. Notable among them are the Brazilian and Barcelona mesmeric forwarder, Ronaldinho, Liberian George Weah and the all-time crafted Nigerian football hero, Austin Jay Jay Okocha.
