As the count down to the Gambia’s first ever participation to the World Youth Championship in Canada reaches its climax, the Lebanese Community in the Gambia (LEBCOM) has recently donated a cheque of D300, 000 to the organising committee for Operation Canada and as well as patronise the GFA by buying a platinum table at their Gala Dinner with Assan Njie at the Paradise Suites recently.

Explaining the reasons behind their move to the Secy for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs Hon. Sheikh Omar Faye, Mr. Wissam Khanafer, the Youth and Sports Coordinator and social Secretary to LEBCOM, said the Lebanese Community will go all out to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the country as a mark of appreciation to the conducive environment provided to them by His Excellency the President of the Republic and the Gambian people.

He observed that The Gambia is endowed with a very friendly and honest people and therefore called on all particularly the private sector to support youth led initiatives, as this will in no small measure help to create a bright future for the country.

Mr. Khanafer finally called on the Department of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs to always feel free to contact the Lebanese Community when the need arises.

"We thank President Jammeh for facilitating cordial and smooth relationship between the people of Lebanon and The Gambia," he said.

In response, the Secy Hon. Sheikh Omar Faye thanked the Lebanese Community for their gesture and urged them to continue to earmark part of their profit for the development of the youth people of the country.

Investing in Sports he said is investing in youth people.

He finally advised the business community not to be so profit conscious as this has the potential to make life difficult for the Gambia people.
