Bansang Senior and Upper Basic School Sunday June 17, 2007 held their Speech and Prize-Giving Ceremony at the school grounds in Bansang.
The theme of the speech day was ‘the role of secondary education in national development’.
Speaking at the ceremony, Momodou Sanneh, Director of Basic and Secondary Education who was also the Gust Speaker said that the role of education and human capital in promoting the growth of economic and improvement in human well-being is well recognised in the economic literature. He reiterated that recent micro-and macro-economic evidence highlights the significant contributions to economic growth that secondary education makes.
Mr. Sanneh asserted that, the social and economic development in The Gambia depends heavily on the ability to mobilise education and train youths for the challenges of the 21st century.
Ismaila Ceesay, Principal of the school in his annual report said this is the first speech and prize giving ceremony for the Senior school stating that 86 students. He asserted that much have been done to prepare the student mentally so that they can take up the challenges that lies ahead in their drive towards contributing desirably to the socio-economic development objectives.
He highlighted on the performance of the school for the year ended, not of that students’ performance have both the Senior and the Upper Basic school.
He finally advised the students to be good ambassadors of the school and to take their education seriously.
