In the wake of a close succession of what many describe as torrential rainfalls in the Greater Banjul Area (GBA) and Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), residents of parts of Ebo Town, Bundung, Fajikunda and surroundings have found themselves in a state of unusual squalor, forced on them by heavy rainstorms. The resultant floods, these reporters gathered, have caused serious damage to homes and other properties, leaving some residents temporarily homeless.
Speaking to The Point last Monday, a resident of Ebo Town, Mr. Lamin Fatty, expressed grief at the fact that both his family and tenants in their compound have had to relocate due to the sudden desolation in their environment.
He attributed the problem of the stagnation of water this year to the manner in which the roads have been constructed, saying that the area has never experienced the kind of problem before.
He further said that the constructors of the newly constructed roads have not put in place a suitable drainage system to allow water to run off so as to avoid destruction by erosion.
Mr. Francis Gomez, another victim, also bemoaned the mishap, saying that they had never before experienced the extent of damage caused by the recent rains.
He expressed similar views on the cause of the problem, noting that it has caused a lot of inconvenience for pedestrians and motorists alike.
One Lamin Badjie, a victim resident in Fajikunda, said his house is under threat of collapsing.
