Friday, July 6, 2007
Dr Patrick Chang, Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia, over the weekend donated food items to the refugees in Foni at a ceremony held at the Ndemban horticultural garden in Western Region.

The donated items include vegetable food and rice among other things.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Chang said the donation is meant to help refugees, adding that the rainy season is always a difficult time for refugees. He added that as the world observed the “World Refugee Day”, his office also deemed it necessary to give a little gift to them. He posited that the donated items would help those refugees socially and economically.

According to Dr Chang, about five thousand refugees will benefit from the donation. He then urged the farmers to continue with their hard work and also commended President Jammeh for giving them the chance to do their farming operations in a conducive atmosphere. He finally on behalf of the people of Taiwan handed over the donated stuff to the Jammeh Foundation for Peace (JFP).

In receiving the donated items, Ansumana Jammeh, Executive Director, Jammeh Foundation for Peace (JFP) thanked the Taiwanese people for their relentless support and contribution to the development of The Gambia. He added that Dr Patrick Chang has been donating to the refugees, noting that this is not the first time of its kind.

The JFP boss informed the Taiwanese Ambassador that the refugees are grateful for the relentless support. Mr. Jammeh assured the donors that the items will be put to good use and will be given to the right people.

The ceremony was witnessed by staff of the embassy and a cross-section of the community.
