Will Gambia U-20 Bounce Back Today?

Friday, July 6, 2007
The Gambia National U-20 team will try to bounce back in the race for the World Youth Championship title chase when they would face new comers New Zealand today in Toronto.

The Darling Scorpions, who were humiliated 3-0 by the Golden Boys of Mexico in their opening game last Monday, are condemned to claim all three points today if they want to remain in competition after their last game on July 8.

Today’s task would not be easy as New Zealand also need to win this game after losing 2-0 to Portugal in their first outing.

Monday defeat was a heaviest the Darling Scorpions have ever suffered in an official competition since the team was put in place.

Today game would be played at National Soccer Stadium in Toronto and would kick off at 21.00pm in Banjul.

Nothing is yet over as the Gambia can make to the next round if they manage to beat both New Zealand and Portugal.

It could be noted that Argentina lost their first game in the last edition held in Holland in 2005 and later went through to clinch the title after beating Nigeria 2-1 in the final.

With support and prayers from the fans and more concentration from the technical bench and the players, The Gambia would easily go through to the second stage.
