Taiwanese Foreign Minister Arrives in The Gambia

The Foreign Minister of the Republic of China on Taiwan, James C.F. Huang, arrived in The Gambia yesterday as a special envoy of President Chen-Shu-bian.

Mr. C.F. Huang was met on arrival at the Banjul International Airport by Mr. Crispin Grey-Johnson, Secretary of State for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, on behalf of the Secy for Foreign Minister.
Also at hand welcome Taiwanese Foreign Minister were other Secretaries of State, Permanent Secretaries, the Taiwanese community in The Gambia and other senior government officials.

Speaking to reporters shortly after his arrival, Minister Huang said that he is visiting as a special envoy of President Chen-Shu-bian to personally deliver an invitation to President Jammeh for him to attend the forthcoming Taiwan Africa Summit to be held in Taipei on 9th September 2007.

“In that regards we would like to seek the presence of President Jammeh.
We understand The Gambia last year successfully hosted the Africa Union Summit,” he said.
He said the topics to be discussed in the summit in Taipei would focus on issues such as peace, prosperity and sustainable development in Africa.

He expressed his pleasure in coming to The Gambia for the second time.
The Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia, Dr. Patrick Chang, introduced Minister Huang to both Gambian dignitaries and the Taiwanese community present at the airport.

Minister Huang will meet President Jammeh this morning at Kanilai.
