The President of the Gambia Football Association (GFA), Seedy MB Kinteh, has said that the trophy won by the Gambia U-17 team in the four-nation tournament in Abidjan, would be officially presented to President Yahya A.J.J Jammeh in his home town of Kanilai.
GFA Boss made this revealed to the U-17 players and officials of the team at the Banjul International Airport at the colorful welcoming ceremony last Thursday.
Mr. Kinteh pointed out that the Gambia Football Association in collaboration with the Department of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs would set a date for the team to pay a courtesy call on the Vice President, Dr Ajaratou Isatou Njie- Saidy at State House and later proceed to Kanilai to present the trophy to President Jammeh.
“It has been the wish of President Jammeh for Gambian teams to bring trophies to him for the past years but that could not materialise and we thank God for making it happen in Ivory Coast so we would present the giant trophy to his Excellency President Jammeh in Kanilai as part of the celebration,” he noted.
Mr. Kinteh told the jubilant players that the GFA would honor their promises they made to them before their departure to Ivory Coast because the team has made the all nation proud by clinching the most converted trophy in Abidjan.
He took the opportunity to thank the Department of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs for providing the services of Coach Tarik Siagy from Egypt through technical assistance.
“I also thank the coaching staff, Tarik, Ebrima Jallow alias EB and Alhagie Marong, the head of Delegation, Joe Kalamba Sambou and Bakary Dampha alias Paco, team Manager Hada Bangura, team doctor Kalifa Manneh and Adama and the players,” he said.
Mr. Kinteh went further to say a big thanks to the two journalists Nanama Keita of Daily Observer and Benjamin Wally Joof and their sponsors for their vibrant coverage of the event in Abidjan.
