The 2006 Serekunda West knockout winners, Kanifing United, on Saturday started this year’s nawettan season with a glory by clinching the Super Cup title.
In a well attended match played at the Serekunda West Mini Stadium, the Blue Boys of Kanifing United defeated New Jeshwang United 1-0.
The only goal of the final was scored in the14th minute by Bouba Tunkara, who took advantage from a misunderstanding between the two central defenders of New Jeshwang United, to fire a good shot, which surprised goalkeeper Abdulie Njie.
New Jeshwang United, coached by Amath Cham of Kaira Silo, dominated the all encounter, missing chances over chances.
All of there attacking options resulted to scoring chances but they could not find the back of the nets.
At the end of the encounter, Kanifing United were awarded a trophy and cash prize of D7000 while New Jeshwang United went home with D5000.
The final was attended by the both first and second vice presidents of GFA, Brigadier Lang Tombong Tamba and Mass Axi Gai, Lamin King Colley chairman of Western Region Sports Committee and other sports personalities.
Meanwhile the 2007 Nawettan league would kick off on Tuesday August 7, 2007 with Kanifing Estate taking on Jollof Tutors at 4.30pm.
