Members Urged to Pay Dues

Members of the Gambia Sports Journalists Association (GSJA) are warming up for their triennial congress on Saturday August 11, 2007.

According to a press communiqué from the Association, this ground-breaking occasion in the life of the Association would be held at the Independence Stadium just after the office of the National Youth Council (NYC).

The communiqué revealed that the Secretary of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs, Sheikh Omar Faye is expected to deliver the keynote address.

According to the official Agenda and programme of the Congress, after the keynote address of Secy Faye, the president of the Association, Namory Trawally would present his report follow by that of the General Secretary, Amadou Korka Jallow.

Gibril MS Jassey, the financial Secretary, would also update the delegates with the financial situation of the Association.

Later participants of the four-day training course organised by the Association in April and funded by the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) would receive their certificates.

After the departure of the invitees, the congress would resume with discussions on the three reports presented, review of the constitution, adoption of the programme of activities and dissolution of the executive committee.

The election of a new executive would be conducted and the remark by the newly elected president would wrap up the congress.

Meanwhile the Press communique urged all members to regularise their situation before the congress on Saturday.

The Release revealed that the constitution of the Association states in its Article 13 Sub-section K (Procedures and Voting) that any member that fails to pay his due for six months would not be allowed to vote or voted in.

“So to avoid any inconveniences members are called to come forward and pay their monthly dues,” the communique concluded.
