Secretary-General Jammeh Bojang’s saga: GFA clears the air

Monday, September 17, 2007

Mr Seedy Kinteh, President of The Gambia Football Association has revealed to Observer Sports that Mr Jammeh Bojang is still the Secretary-General of the national football governing body. Kinteh also refuted recent media claims that the current out-of-town Secretary-General has absconded to the United Kingdom with an unexpressed amount of GFA funds.

“Jammeh is still the Secretary-General of The Gambia Football Association. He had the blessing of the GFA Executive Committee before travelling to the United Kingdom to pursue his master's degree in the good of Gambian football. His studies, which will last for two years, is in modules and Jammeh Bojang will return to the country soon. He is studying at his own expenses and he owes us no money,” Kinteh told Observer Sports last night.

Speaking to Observer Sports from his Birmingham University campus, Jammeh Bojang said: “I find these stories very weird and repulsive. Yes, I am in the UK pursuing a master's degree but with the permission of my President and the Executive Committee of the GFA. I have no problems with the current Executive Committee. In fact, the President Seedy Kinteh vouched strongly on my behalf to the University, whilst Brigadier-General Lang Tombong Tamba, First Vice- President gave me a very good present in the office of The GFA President the night before I left for the UK. These people only fell short of seeing me off at the Banjul International Airport.”

Bojang said since his arrival in UK, he has been in daily contact with the President, Executive Committee, and staff of the GFA.

“Honestly, I love my work and my country. I have not taken a butut from the GFA funds. I am travelling back to The Gambia in the coming weeks and I will then legally clear my name for the good of my family and my dear national association,” he concluded.
