Egyptian Tarik Siagy has revealed that he continues to enjoy his stay in the Gambia as a football coach under the technical assistance of the North African nation of Egypt. Coach Tarik has three years left on his Gambia stay having spent only a year, and the elated coach told Observer Sports that the one year’s experience was magnificent.
“I am very happy in the Gambia. And I am enjoying my work. It is gratifying that Gambian flag is now flying higher in the world football arena”, he enthused.
Coach Tarik recently led The Gambia’s Under-17 team to an inspirational win in a fiercely contested quadrangular tourney in Ivory Coast Abidjan, and the Egyptian believes the trophy is important for Gambia.
“The Abidjan trophy is good for the Gambia and myself. I was happy that we won the title in the face of the crowd-favoured hosts and two other footballing nations - Niger and Burkina Faso. The title could serve as a good morale booster for the team in the near future.”
Tarik also hailed the close ties he continues to enjoy with the sports department and the national football governing body, (GFA).
“The collaborations from these two bodies have been very cordial and great. I need the support of everyone to enable me to execute my duty as coach and I am pleased that I am being given the needed support.”
Tarik Siagy said helping Gambia to berth a spot in the Egypt 2009 Under-20 finals is his future dream.
“I have been going around to the various mini-stadiums just to look for good talents. My dream is to qualify for Egypt 2009 Under-20 finals and the ground work should start now,” said Egyptian Tarik who has also served in the Senior Scorpions technical team in their last three fixtures of the 2008 Nations Cup qualifier.
