Being the most popular sports in The Gambia football has registered a tremendous success during the 2006/07. The national teams namely the U-20’s and the senior national team scorpions took part in continental and world competitions.

The National U-20’s clinched the Bronze medal in the African Youth Championship held in Congo and appeared for the first time in the World Youth Championship in Canada where they bowed out in the second round.

The senior national team made a respectable performance during the Ghana 2008 qualifiers by finishing 3rd in their group which has added more weight to the country’s World rankings and has given the country more recognition world wide.

In 2007, The Gambia took part and won the Ivorian four nation U-17 tournament staged by the Ivorian Football Federation marking 47th Anniversary of nationhood.
