Profile: Simon Badjie Outstanding Gambian Defender

Gambia-Italian born International, Simon Badjie is one Gambia’s most outstanding defenders and won a call to the national side on several occasions in the countries international CAF/FIFA campaigns.

He has always showcase very impressive performances during those appearances for his country of origin.

Born in Milan –Italy in 06/09/1978, The Gambian defender who would be thirty years old this year has proved to be a no nonsense defender.

Simon Badjie’s road to the top has been lengthy.

He played his football with Solbiatese in 1995/96 and in 1996/97 in the Italian Serie C2.

From 1997/98 and 99 he moved to Como in the Italian Serie C1.

After spending two seasons with Como he moved to AC Pro Sesto in the Serie C2 and spent five seasons with the club.  Until  2004/2005 Simon signed with his present club, AC Monza in Serie C1 and have been playing in the side for  three consecutive seasons in the first 11.

In all the clubs he played, he has made several envy and versatility caught the eyes of his country of origin the Gambia when he was invited to play in the national side in 2003.

The Gambian-Italian born International is still playing his Professional football in Italy and is dreaming of reaching the top.

He said last year his team could have gained promotion to SerieB but were unfortunate after a row in the finals which could have earned them the ticket to be promoted to the next level.

When asked about the prospects of his team this season he said “This year a lot of things have changed in the, only four of us have remained from the former team and as you know it is not always easy to repeat an almost successful season when a lot of changes are done but anyway we are trying to give the right mentality to the new players.”

With this dream of always reaching higher professional league he believes he can either make it with his present club AC Monza, or another club that is interest in him.

The Gambian Italian international and his side AC Monza are currently 7 Position with 30 Points - 10 point behind Leader AS Cittadelaa in the C1 competition battle for promotion to Serie B.

Last weekend AC Monza won by 4 – 1 against Ternana  Calcio which took them to 7 position in the Seria C1 League.

However, The Gambian Italian international is surely confident of success in the future.
